About Us

Your hosts: Larry and Carolyn Stowe

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. Larry is retired from his first career as a research scientist with the U.S. Department of Commerce. He has been a golfer all his life and is proud to say that he has never met a golf course he didn’t like. He lettered in golf in high school and college, and is currently playing in the 80's. Carolyn has had several careers: teaching French and Italian, raising three wonderful children, and working as a pharmacy technician. She has been a language student all her life and has loved studying, living, and working in France and Italy. Stowe Away Tours has recently relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia where we have discovered a new love: Colonial American History!

We have traveled throughout the United States, in South America, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and most extensively in Europe. We have found Provence, in southern France, to be a wonderful surprise, a delicious treat and a real joy. The Lakes in Northern Italy have absolutely taken our breath away. The Cascais region of Portugal is blessed with great golf courses, gorgeous scenery and a lovely, mild climate. And the eastern coastal region of Scotland takes us back to our country's ancestors and to the ancestors of the game of golf itself. We have established a wonderful working relationship with travel experts in each of these countries and they have helped us to arrange a varied, interesting and enjoyable European holiday for you. Our one American tour, based in Williamsburg Virginia, is in our own backyard, and we are anxious to show it to you as well!

The Stowe Away Experience

We will meet you on a Friday at the airport (Marseille for Provence, Milan Malpensa for Italy, Lisbon International for Portugal, Edinburgh International for Scotland and Richmond International for Williamsburg), and accompany you to the hotel. After you have taken a few moments to settle in, we invite you to a Welcome Cocktail party at the hotel, where we will hand out pertinent information, maps, etc. and begin to get acquainted.

From there on, Days 2,4,6,8 are golfing days, each time at another wonderful golf course. Our private bus will drop off Larry and the golfers, and then the non-golfers will set off with Carolyn and our local guide to explore fascinating places in the area, returning to pick up the golfers again on the return trip to the hotel. On Days 3,5,7,9 we will all enjoy a chance to sightsee together. On the final evening, we invite you to a Farewell Dinner with a slide show to remind you of all the fun you have had on your Stowe Away Tour, and on Day 10 we will take you back to the airport for your return home.
